A mutual fund that holds very short-term, high-quality debt (Treasury bills, bank paper) and tries to keep its share price at exactly $1.00 while paying out the interest. Brokerages use them as the default place for uninvested cash. It's an investment, so it is not FDIC insured; if the brokerage fails, SIPC covers custody, not the value.
